Group Information (where you are based, number of members, normal group activities etc…): Gavinburn Parent Council is made up by a group of parents and teachers who have at least one child who attends Gavinburn Primary School or that work within the school. We meet on average once a month at Gavinburn Primary School and have continued to hold virtual meetings of the last year. Our aim is to help promote partnership between the school, its pupils, its parents and the community. We develop and engage in activities through out the year which support the school, education and welfare of the pupils. We identify and represent the views of parents on not only the education provided by the school but any matters affecting the school, education and welfare of the pupils.
What will you use the money for?: We would like to fund the purchase of outdoor equipment for pupils of Gavinburn Primary School. The purchase of outdoor equipment such as picnic benches, bark for under our trim trail to enhance safety and re turfing of grass areas will allow more outdoor experiences for the pupils. Gavinburn encourages as much outdoor activities as possible and considers itself to be an "outdoor" school. Recent changes to the school grounds have seen the development of a forest School , an outdoor classroom and a trim trial. Unfortunately weather result in the school having to restrict access to the trim trial due to the grass conditions. The lack of seating within the playground limits children from being able to sit and eat outside or even just to sit and have a conversation with a friend(s). Therefore to have this equipment will improve the outdoor activities for many children within the community.
Who will benefit from this money?: Children of Gavinburn Primary School will benefit from the proposed purchase of the picnic benches however the new bark underneath the trim trail would benefit the wider community. Due to the positioning of the Trim Trial within the school grounds this is accessible to the wider community at evenings, weekends and school holidays. This would allow children to increase their opportunities outdoors. It is expected the positive experience they would gain from increased time in a stimulating environment would help to further not just their progress in the classroom but also with their social interaction with their peers.
