Investment project code: 85

Group Information (where you are based, number of members, normal group activities etc…): WDCF has been providing emergency food parcels across West Dunbartonshire for 8 years. We also provide a Babybank, Fuel Poverty Project, School Uniform Bank, School Holiday Brunch Bags and a Christmas Toybank. Last year we supported over 18,000 people through our projects. We normally have around 110 volunteers to support our staff team but due to the pandemic, we are working with only 3 staff and 2 volunteers. We normally distribute food parcels through 3 distribution centres but we are currently only delivering to households to support the stay at home message.

What will you use the money for?: We are in need of an additional worker to support the increased workload we are experiencing. Without the normal volunteer support across the week, there are times throughout the week that we are struggling with the number of deliveries requested. We would like to employ a young, local person, on a sessional basis, improving opportunities for them and offering support with training and development, which would help them when job opportunities improve. The person would work within our storage base in Dumbarton. The funding would cover up to 30 hours a week for a period between 4 and 7 months, whereupon we would hope the situation would improve for us to have some of our volunteers back.

Who will benefit from this money?: Anyone affected by poverty in West Dunbartonshire would benefit from this funding, we estimate over the course of 4 months this would be approx 6000 people. This would ensure we have enough workers to keep up with the high demand for support. We work with anyone affected by poverty, our youngest clients are children and our oldest are in their 90s. We accept self referrals from individuals seeking support as well as receiving referrals from many agencies, including social work, schools/nurseries, health visitors and youth workers. We are currently working in partnership with the WDC Food Insecurity Team, responding to requests for support from anyone affected by COVID who is isolating, shielding and COVID positive. This support ensures anyone unable to leave their home receives the support they need to keep themselves and everyone else safe.
