Group Information (where you are based, number of members, normal group activities etc…): Part of what we do as a church is run The Phoenix, a community hub serving Dumbarton West (Castlehill, Brucehill & Westcliff.) The Phoenix contains a community cafe and runs a wide and varied activities programme including toddler groups, baby massage classes, youth clubs, family activities, lunch clubs, art classes, fitness groups, holiday hunger programmes, intergenerational events, recover groups, volunteer programmes, free back to school haircuts, seasonal festivals, and much much more. While The Phoenix is run by Rock Community Church it is open to anyone irrespective of belief or background. Before Covid we had an average footfall of 1,100 a month. Throughout the past year we have adapted our groups and activities around government guidelines and have provided art packs for kids, cook at home courses, holiday hunger provisions, fuel poverty grants, online art classes, mental wellbeing support packs, and more.

What will you use the money for?: THE BEAUTY OF TALKING We recognise that people's mental wellbeing has been badly affected during the pandemic and we want to help reduce some of the stigma of talking about how we're feeling. So we will use the money for a project we are calling "The Beauty of Talking." We will run some hair and make-up group tutorials with our professional Hair & Make-Up Artist, Diz. As part of this we will discuss stigma around mental health and how and where people talk about their wellbeing. We will also provide 1 to 1 appointments for either a free haircut or free make-up session. As part of these appointments we will again talk about stigma around mental wellbeing alongside the feel good factor of being pampered and looking after yourself.

The money will be used for salary costs, mental health first aid training, supplies for hair and make-up sessions and administrative costs.

Who will benefit from this money?: Our focus is on Castlehill, Brucehill and Westcliff residents. Two of the three group tutorials will be focussed on adults with one aimed specifically at teens. We then hope to deliver 100 1 to 1 sessions for either haircuts or make-up.
