Description
To enhance the footpath on Hardgate Knowes from the back of the shops at Hardgate to Craigs Avenue. Partially reroute the path to avoid steps that are currently there. There is an alternative route that runs below the existing pathway which is now overgrown which could be a more suitable way of access with less gradient. Maintenance would be also be beneficial to the area of land which is owned by the Council located to the rear of Whitehills Hotel. This would enhance the appearance of the wider area within Hardgate Knowes. Rerouting the path to avoid steps would increase accessibility to wheelchair users, those with prams or those with other mobility issues. The path is used quite heavily and is a popular resource in the local community and could be part of the Clyde Coastal Path. There is also proposed plans for a new school campus at Faifley Road. Improving pathways in Hardgate Knowes would encourage sustainable methods of travel (e.g. walking, cycling) to the new school and other amenities in the local community.
According to WDC officers the approximate cost of this project would be £40,000.
